Pema Osel Ling. POL for short. It's a little hard to say and even harder to find. Fortunately Clarisse, my nav system got us there along with some reinforcement maps from planner extraordinaire, Karissa or "KPax" of Coastside Couture. POL is way up in the redwoods above Watsonville, Corralitos actually and it's a pretty interesting place.
Even more interesting was the combination of cultures. You had your Tibetan Buddhists and their statuary in conspicuous locations, a bunch of happy Texans and a raccoon who decided to cruise the party in broad daylight.

All this and some sunshine made a sweet August day for Cate and Jon who exchanged vows in the Redwood Grove and then wandered down the hill to the party site for festivities well into the evening.

It doesn't really matter if the skies are a bit grey, the beauty shines through.. and the gorgeous Terra gleamed the brightest of all.Surrounded by family and friends, Terra and her groom Erich were wed on the 18th Lawn and then guests made the scenic stroll along Stillwater Cove led by a bagpiper to the Beach Club reception.

Dancing at The Beach and Tennis Club, Pebble Beach

This is truly one of my favorite spots for a party on the Monterey Peninsula. The Beach and Tennis Club is set in one of the most spectacular locations on the planet. Early evening offers vistas of the cove, the sailboats off the pier through the floor to ceiling wall of glass. High ceilings, an outdoor fireplace patio with salt air breezes. It really doesn't get much better than this in my opinion.

Our Russian bride selected a few American songs and one from her home country for this dancing sequence. . the final chapter of her full length wedding movie.

She saw this cute guy on match.com and figured he must be a model or something. He couldn't be real.

Turns out she was wrong.

Kim and Charlie held an intimate wedding with four of their very closest friends on the deck of the Hyatt, Carmel Highlands . . otherwise known as the Highlands Inn, Carmel. The weather was clear and the ocean beyond, blue and gorgeous. After the knot was tied, we all headed down to Ribera Beach for a walk in the sunshine.

What happens when they decide to be married on the Monterey Peninsula in February?
Cloudine, or Jeanie as she is known to her friends and her Prince Charming Christophe tied the knot on the 18th Lawn under sunny skies with a threat of rain clouds approaching. The rain never came, but instead provided dramatic skies, the perfect backdrop for an exciting evening of dining, dancing and merriment in the Library Room of The Lodge at Pebble Beach.

Sharee & Allan's 10-10-10 Mission Ranch, Carmel

10-10-10 was a popular day for weddings.

Sharee & Allan chose it for the promise of happiness it will bring.
This was a celebration blending two families and four generations. It's unusual for a marriage to come equipped with a whole bunch of cute grand kids. No waiting necessary!

The ceremony was held on the patio of the small barn at Mission Ranch which affords a panoramic vantage point of the sheep pastures and Point Lobos in the distance. After cocktails, the party moved inside for dinner and dancing.

That 10-10-10 thing must have been working because from what my camera recorded, a high level of happiness was definitely had by all.

A wedding on New Year's Eve?
Well I guess that's one way to remember your anniversary. . and there's always a party somewhere.
Actually not a bad plan, especially if you select indoor venues. Giana & Mark chose the Santa Catalina Chapel and the The Monterey Marriott for their ceremony and reception. Everything worked out just fine. Even the weather cooperated on that last day of 2010 as you will see.

A December beach wedding in Pacific Grove? Well it's possible I suppose. .
I mean, my family has been known to do Christmas gift exchanges on the beach.

On the one hand, lots of venues and vendors are available for a December wedding.
Then of course there's that other hand - a good chance of nasty weather.

Keri rolled the dice.
Unfortunately Plan A didn't work out - the fabulous Lover's Point ceremony with the view of the crashing surf.

Luckily for Keri and John, they hired Amy Byrd who made sure there was a Plan B in place - the lovely Gatherings, just a few blocks up the road.

A little alteration in plan and voila! . . a wonderful wedding.

Jiyoon & Austin's Church in the Forest & Monterey Plaza Wedding

The Church in the Forest at Robert Louis Stevenson School in Pebble Beach is a gorgeous setting with a two-story window that frames the pines.

Jiyoon had the vision to ask for three cameras because it's a tricky place to shoot, but oh so worth it!

It was a lovely ceremony and we did some shots on campus then headed off to Lover's Point for a chilly but very dramatic session on the rocks and along the water's edge.

Upon arrival at Monterey, Jiyoon was transformed into the traditional attire for the Korean Pehbaek Tea Ceremony.

Then the happy couple switched back into their formal attire for the wedding reception and party. What a day!

You have to hear the story of how he proposed! I've never heard one quite like it. That Rich, he's a clever guy. . and DeAnna knows she found a keeper.

The 23rd of October at the former Ft. Ord on the Monterey Peninsula was a nonstop rainy day. I mean, it did not let up once which is a shame because the views are so pretty from up there. It certainly wasn't the sunny "county fair" weather they themed their entire party around, but the decor was absolutely charming nonetheless.

Late September is prime time in Monterey, California. It's the time for Jazz Festival, beautiful weather and last year it was the time for Heather and Adam to tie the knot.

The day started out at Monterey Plaza with make-up, dresses and pictures. Then off to the newly restored San Carlos Cathedral for the exchange of rings and kisses.
Vows, kisses, rings and more kisses - in that order.

More pictures and the party moved back to Monterey Plaza . . out on the deck. . then into the ballroom for dining, dancing and festivities.

July 17th, 2010 - Maeby looked out the big view windows at cloudy skies while her stylist applied makeup and set her hair in curlers. The bridesmaids' suite in Monterey's modern and newly decorated Mariposa Inn was in typical disarray for a wedding day.

By the time she arrived by limo to Monterey Plaza the sun had come out, but her nerves had arrived. That would all change when she saw Jon. They shared personal vows and pledged their love for a lifetime.

Family and friends offered toasts and hugs, enjoyed dancing in the daylight and an exquisite cake was cut
and consumed. . . all before four o'clock!

Margo and Paul have known one another their whole lives. He was, while not exactly the "boy next door" he was the boy in Margo's grade school class and they didn't pay much attention to each other at all.

The best way to describe this day, is "spirited" and not in the pep rally sense of the word - well except for the enthusiasm part.

California girl meets Russian guy. Sweet love ensues. Followed by celebration with flowers, food, festive music and many many shots of chilled vodka! That's it, in a shot glass. . Did I mention the singing? Watch and listen. This is definitely not your cookie cutter California wedding.

As usual, The Holly Farm and Grapes of Wrath staff provided all of the top drawer ingredients for an incredible event.

Kissing, kissing and more kissing. I've never seen a groom as happy as Maarten. Anna seemed in pretty good spirits too.

Considering all they went through to make this wedding happen including guests getting stuck overseas due to the volcano in Iceland - things turned out rather nicely. It was a wonderful wedding day at The Highlands Inn in beautiful Carmel Highlands.

Aliah & Maruf's Big Sur Wedding Extravaganza

Dancers and singers, drummers and horns, bangles and beads, costumes and swirling scarves, swords and magic carpet rides.

OK I made the last part up.

It was pretty magical up there though.

A feast for all of the senses was what our California-Persian-Diva Bride Aliah had in mind, a wedding festival if you will and celebration of dance. Aliah and Maruf met dancing so how else should they celebrate their love but with music and merriment on a dance floor under the stars and moon?

Picture yourself at the top of the edge of the continent, otherwise known as Pfeiffer Ridge, Big Sur overlooking the vast blue Pacific. The Bohemian fantasy enclave is a random collection of structures both stationary and mobile, once a home to Aliah in her single days.

The BigTime Bimmer Sportswagon's all-wheel-drive was put to the test as we climbed the harrowing unpaved switchback straight up the hillside, but it was worth it.

So here's the story: Beautiful Girl from New Orleans meets a cute guy on a plane. Her sister picks her up at the airport and Cute Guy gives her a big hug and says "Hey Sister, I'm Ryan!". Sister rolls her eyes and thinks "Here we go again."

Time passes. Cut to Carmel-by-the-Sea. Beautiful Girl is now Beautiful Bride. Sherrie is her name and she's marrying Ryan. (He turns out to be a pretty cool guy.)

October 24, 2009 the soft fluffy grasses and fuzzy sheep were playing their parts perfectly as cinema backdrops for this romantic comedy. (watch the vows and you'll see what I mean . .)

Wedding, eating, toasts, dancing and fun all topped off with a little New Orleans style festivities.

We have days in Carmel that are drippy, cold and miserable.

This was not one of those days.

Quite the opposite actually.

In fact, the fact that Gina chose "At Last" for her first dance song was thematic in every sense of the word including the blue-ness of the skies above.

The Sena house above the Whistler Ranch with a bird's eye view of Pt. Lobos definitely tops my list of places to put on a dress. We took some photos and video, Kevin met us at the Mission courtyard for some more shots, then my favorite priest, Father John, performed his trademark ceremony.

Fiddlers, led the procession of guests from the Mission to Mission Ranch just in time for Clint's famous "Sunset over fluffy grass and sheep". (Actually I don't think we can give Mr. Eastwood 100% credit for this event - but I'll give it to him for the setting.)

Cocktails on the Patio, dinner, slide show in the little barn and then back to the Patio Barn for dancing, merriment, cutting and eating of cake.

All in all, I'd say this November wedding day in Carmel was a rather good one.

The lawn off the 18th Hole at world-famous Pebble Beach was the setting for the exchange of vows. After some light refreshment, the party moved down the coast to The Highlands Inn for more food, fun and festivities.

May 2, 2009 was a big day for the Moses and Fernandez Family.
Chris Moses, son of Mary and Doyle, and sister of Erin Moses, the owner/managers of Carmel Valley's famed Holly Farm was finally planning to tie the knot. The love of Chris' life is the beautiful Jennifer. The hours leading up to the event was not without stress as Doyle ended up in the hospital the night before and rain threatened. The big plastic tent went up just in case. Once the day came, all was well. Doyle was his usual gracious and charming self and the rain stayed away. Hallelujah!
Grapes of Wrath Catering served up a fabulous feast as usual and Salsa dancing ensued in the later hours. I also had the pleasure of working with photographer Terry Way We all had a blast!

This is the story of a big day in the life of the Fithian Family.

Allison's mother Margie, is from Cuba where a Quinceañera is a rite of passage for a young woman. She had one and so did her mother before her.

In my career as a family documentarian, I've covered Quincenañeras in the nearby communities of Salinas and San Juan Bautista for girls of Mexican heritage. In Carmel-by-the-Sea, California this was a first.

Most of Allison's friends were not familiar with the rituals or had never heard of a Quinceañera.

We discussed the traditions and we celebrated as Alli made the transition to this new phase of her life with her family and community as an adult woman.

The party took place at the lovely La Playa Hotel in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.

It was an intimate group - just close family members who gathered on October 5, 2008 for a lovely weekend at Bernardus Lodge in Carmel Valley.
The couple got ready in their Bernardus suite, followed by a short ceremony in the Marinus Garden with Colette Cuccia officiating and a short cocktail mixer on the Marinus Terrace above. The evening continued in the warm and inviting Harvest room adjacent to the bocci and croquet court.

It really was a family affair. Kate's sister Gena still works there. I teased her a little when I saw her clearing a table and said, "You know they have people who do that." We were fortunate to capture the footage of Sandy's mother (Alex's grandmother) attending the wedding soon before she passed away. This is an aspect of wedding videos that doesn't occur to most.
